Everything the Foundation does must further one of the charitable purposes set out in its Articles of Incorporation. Here they are, in plain language.
Our charitable purposes
Purpose 1
Advancement of religion
To advance religion by establishing, acquiring, maintaining, operating and supporting mosques, places of worship, Islamic centres and other facilities for religious purposes — including religious services, congregational prayers, sermons, lectures, conferences, educational programs, missionary and outreach activities, religious observances, and the publication, translation and distribution of religious literature — furthering the teachings, principles, values and practices of Islam in accordance with the beliefs of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Through schools, colleges, training centres, libraries and educational institutions; classes, seminars, workshops and conferences; academic, vocational, professional, cultural, religious and community education; research and educational resources; and scholarships, bursaries, grants, awards and other financial assistance to students selected according to objective criteria.
Assisting individuals, families and communities experiencing financial hardship or social disadvantage through food, clothing, shelter, medical assistance, educational support, emergency relief, financial assistance and basic necessities — including food banks, community kitchens, shelters, relief programs, humanitarian initiatives, and assistance to refugees, newcomers, people affected by disasters and other vulnerable populations.
Operating charitable programs intended to improve quality of life, including health, social welfare, community development, youth engagement, family support, volunteerism, intercultural understanding, humanitarian relief and other public benefit.
Making gifts to qualified donees as defined in the Income Tax Act, and collaborating with registered charities, public institutions and governmental bodies — and with non-profit organizations where legally permissible under an appropriate arrangement — in furtherance of the Foundation’s charitable purposes.
Undertaking other activities that are ancillary and incidental to the foregoing purposes, provided they are charitable under Canadian law and comply with applicable legislation.

Guiding principles
Public benefit, not private benefit
Programs serve the public or a sufficient section of it, defined by need and published criteria.
Directors, officers, founders and their relatives may not receive assistance, scholarships or other benefits from Foundation programs, except reasonable reimbursement of approved expenses.
Relief is based on assessed need, not simply on request.
Every activity must connect to a stated charitable purpose and be approved under board-adopted policies.
